Mu Cang Chai Is Now One Of Special National Heritage Sites

Mu Cang Chai terraced fields have long been famous on the check-in map of young people and are considered a certain place to visit when traveling to the Northwest (check out Sapa Tours if you want to add Mu Cang Chai into your visiting list). The terraced fields lying on mountain slopes, layer after layer with an area of about 2,200 ha are located in 3 communes of La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha, De Xu Phinh in Mu Cang Chai District, Yen Bai Province.

Most recently, this famous scenic spot has just been recognized by the Prime Minister as one of Special National Heritage Sites. Earlier in 2007, Mu Cang Chai terraces were ranked National Monuments by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

These terraced fields have been seen as an indispensable highlight of the whole northern mountainous region. They are used as a means to help keep water supplied to the field. From the hard working hands of the upland people, the Mu Cang Chai terraces have become a wonder, a national beauty spot that needs to be preserved and developed.

For a long time, this place has become the destination that attracts many tourists as well as photographers because of its unmistakable charm. This place is also very popular and always in the top of most Instagram checked-in destinations of foreigners. The famous travel website When On Earth once said that “this is the most exquisite and attractive beauty, and probably more unique than anywhere in the world”. The Discovery with more than 11.3 million followers on Instagram also dedicated a post to introduce magnificent images in Mu Cang Chai to the international online community.

It is known that the Mu Cang Chai terraces are the most beautiful around May to June when the fields are in the watering season and from September to October when a glorious golden glutinous rice color spread across the hillsides. Visitors come here at this time to enjoy the majestic scenery of the rice fields.

Being listed as a special national monument along with Mu Cang Chai terraced fields in this phase, there are also other famous cultural and historical relics such as: Xuong Giang relics, Chi Lang relics, Non Nuoc Mountain, Dinh Dai Phung communal house, Sam Son Beach and Hai Ba Trung Temple.
